R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, After almost 30 years as the librarian and guiding

 1-2     light of the Whitewright Library, Kay Bryant is retiring, and it is

 1-3     indeed appropriate at this time to recognize this notable Texan for

 1-4     her many contributions to her community; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Ms. Bryant's long association with the library began

 1-6     in the 1960s, when she was among a number of area residents who

 1-7     thought such an institution both necessary and possible, and it was

 1-8     through their concerted efforts that this dream eventually became a

 1-9     reality; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Housed in what was previously a bank building, the

1-11     Whitewright Library's original collection was to a great extent

1-12     borrowed from other libraries, while its funding came from such

1-13     sources as bake sales and bazaars; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Due in large part to the efforts of Ms. Bryant, the

1-15     library has grown to comprise more than 20,000 books, most of which

1-16     she has personally selected, and its budget has likewise grown over

1-17     the years to reflect the library's present size and stature; and

1-18           WHEREAS, The Whitewright Library itself is a fitting tribute

1-19     to Kay Bryant's years of service to the community, and although her

1-20     energy and expertise will be greatly missed, her influence will

1-21     still be felt by the many Texans who continue to benefit from her

1-22     foresight and dedication; now, therefore, be it

1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-24     Legislature hereby honor Kay Bryant for her many years of public

 2-1     service and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success

 2-2     and happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-4     prepared for Ms. Bryant as an expression of high regard by the

 2-5     Texas House of Representatives.
