R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Richard Charles Cox on 1-2 February 26, 1997, at the age of 44, has brought a great loss to 1-3 the family and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Mr. Cox was born on November 27, 1-5 1952, and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Southern 1-6 Methodist University; in the early 1980s, his passion for politics 1-7 led him to become involved in addressing many of the political 1-8 issues that affected his hometown, and in 1982, he was appointed 1-9 the interim county clerk of Dallas County, in which capacity he 1-10 served with the utmost distinction for several months; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mr. Cox demonstrated his support of the Democratic 1-12 Party in 1983 when he became a county official for that 1-13 organization, and his association with the party was further 1-14 cemented when in 1984 he was named executive director of the 1-15 county's main office, a post he held until 1989; and 1-16 WHEREAS, While continuing in his active support of the 1-17 Democratic Party, this noteworthy individual worked as a 1-18 child-support investigator for the Dallas office of the state 1-19 attorney general and as a court coordinator for state District 1-20 Judge Jim Jordan; most recently he was employed by the Dallas 1-21 regional office of the Texas Lottery Commission; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Richard Charles Cox was a man of great compassion 1-23 and integrity, and although his guidance and devotion will be 1-24 missed by all who knew him, his spirit will surely live on in the 2-1 hearts of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, 2-2 be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Charles Cox 2-5 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-6 wife, Ruth Cox; to his daughters, Elizabeth O'Byrne Cox and Eleanor 2-7 Kathryn Cox; to his parents, O'Byrne and Margaret Cox; to his 2-8 sister, Patricia Cox Smith; to his brothers, Michael D. Cox and 2-9 Douglas T. Cox; to his nephews, David Cox, Daniel Cox, and Alan 2-10 Cox; and to the many other relatives and friends of this esteemed 2-11 gentleman; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-14 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-15 Richard Charles Cox.
