                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On March 24, 1997, the Honorable A. R. "Babe"

 1-2     Schwartz will become the first recipient of the Bob Eckhardt

 1-3     Lifetime Coastal Achievement Award, and this singular distinction

 1-4     is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant throughout his life,

 1-6     Senator Schwartz has championed the preservation of the Texas Gulf

 1-7     Coast both as a legislator and as a private citizen, and his

 1-8     commitment to this precious natural resource has evoked the

 1-9     gratitude and admiration of his fellow Texans; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The Bob Eckhardt Lifetime Coastal Achievement Award

1-11     honors those citizens who have contributed their time and energy to

1-12     the protection of the Texas coastline, and Senator Schwartz's

1-13     stalwart support of the Open Beaches Act and committed efforts in

1-14     behalf of the Coastal States Organization eminently qualify him as

1-15     the award's inaugural recipient; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Thanks to Senator Schwartz's outstanding efforts to

1-17     ensure the continued vitality of the Texas Gulf Coast, generations

1-18     to come will be able to enjoy and benefit from this great natural

1-19     treasure of the Lone Star State, and it is indeed appropriate at

1-20     this time to recognize him for his many contributions to its

1-21     preservation; now, therefore, be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable A. R. "Babe" Schwartz

1-24     on being named the first recipient of the Bob Eckhardt Lifetime

 2-1     Coastal Achievement Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for

 2-2     continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further

 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-4     prepared for Senator Schwartz as an expression of high regard by

 2-5     the Texas House of Representatives.
