                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, James A. Northcutt has provided the citizens of San

 1-2     Antonio with many years of service as both a doctor and an

 1-3     educator, and his hard work and dedication are truly deserving of

 1-4     special legislative recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Northcutt has

 1-6     operated Northcutt Eyecare Center since 1984, the same year he

 1-7     completed his ophthalmology residency at the Veterans

 1-8     Administration Medical Center in Tuskegee, Alabama; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, He is a graduate of Oklahoma's Langston University

1-10     and furthered his education at the graduate level, studying

1-11     physiology at the University of Iowa; from 1968 to 1972 he attended

1-12     medical school at San Antonio's University of Texas Health Science

1-13     Center, and in 1973 he completed his internship at David Grant

1-14     Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California; and

1-15           WHEREAS, In addition to maintaining his medical practice, Dr.

1-16     Northcutt currently interviews prospective medical students and

1-17     serves as a clinical assistant professor at The University of Texas

1-18     Health Science Center; a trustee of St. Paul United Methodist

1-19     Church, this distinguished individual is also a member of Alpha

1-20     Chi, Alpha Kappa Mu, and Beta Beta Beta Biological honor societies;

1-21     and

1-22           WHEREAS, This accomplished native Texan served in the United

1-23     States Air Force from 1971 to 1976 and attained the rank of major;

1-24     among the many honors and awards he has received are the 1995 Alamo

 2-1     City Chamber of Commerce Eagle Award for Outstanding Business

 2-2     Effort and the Minority Service Firm of the Year designation for

 2-3     1993; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Dr. Northcutt currently serves on the board of

 2-5     directors for The University of Texas Health Science Center Medical

 2-6     Alumni Association and as president of the C. A. Whittier Medical

 2-7     Society; a former trustee of the Southwest Mental Health Center and

 2-8     Jarvis Christian College, he is a member of many noteworthy

 2-9     professional associations, including the Bexar County Medical

2-10     Society, the Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical

2-11     Association; and

2-12           WHEREAS, Since settling in San Antonio, this esteemed

2-13     individual has done much to improve the quality of life for his

2-14     fellow citizens by providing a vital service to the community, and

2-15     this chamber is pleased to honor him for his many contributions at

2-16     this time; now, therefore, be it

2-17           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-18     Legislature hereby honor Dr. James A. Northcutt for his many years

2-19     of community service and extend to him sincere best wishes for

2-20     continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it

2-21     further

2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-23     prepared for Dr. Northcutt as an expression of high regard by the

2-24     Texas House of Representatives.
