                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Kevin Lewis were

 1-2     greatly saddened by his passing on December 26, 1996, and we join

 1-3     them in bidding a reluctant farewell to a young man of great

 1-4     ability and promise; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Born March 20, 1979, Kevin Lewis was a warm and

 1-6     welcome presence in the community; known by those closest to him

 1-7     for his forthrightness and constancy, his remarkable talent for

 1-8     support and encouragement brightened the days of his friends and

 1-9     family; and

1-10           WHEREAS, An outstanding athlete, Kevin excelled at the sport

1-11     of basketball; his love of the game was evident in the grace and

1-12     dedication to excellence that characterized his playing, and even

1-13     as his gentleness off the court made him an ideal companion, his

1-14     competitive prowess on it made him much sought after as a teammate;

1-15     and

1-16           WHEREAS, Kevin's affinity for basketball was rivaled by the

1-17     pleasure he took in singing; his musical gifts drew him to the

1-18     youth choir at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where he had

1-19     begun to develop the natural beauty of his voice, and though he

1-20     achieved great heights as a basketball player, he soared even

1-21     higher when he lifted his voice in praise of God; and

1-22           WHEREAS, During his time on earth, Kevin Lewis's spirit

1-23     burned brightly, and although he was taken from this world all too

1-24     soon, he will live on in the hearts and minds of all those whose

 2-1     lives he touched; now, therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-3     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Kevin Lewis and extend

 2-4     sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his mother,

 2-5     Vivian Lewis; to his father, Albert Lampkin; to his brother,

 2-6     Brandon M. Lewis; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be

 2-7     it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-9     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-10     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-11     Kevin Lewis.
