                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On March 20, 1997, members of the Republican Women

 1-2     of Arlington will be at the State Capitol to meet with legislators

 1-3     and discuss issues of interest to the group, and this noteworthy

 1-4     occasion is truly worthy of special praise and recognition; and           

 1-5           WHEREAS, Federated in 1983 as a chapter of the Texas

 1-6     Federation of Republican Women, the group now numbers more than 60

 1-7     members, and under the leadership of president Keely Appleton,

 1-8     first vice president Lia Zaccagnino, second vice president of

 1-9     membership Alicia Kolton, treasurer Anne Ingle, secretary Deanna

1-10     Zimmerman, and parliamentarian Joyce Morgan, they continue to gain

1-11     influence and stature for the Republican party; and

1-12           WHEREAS, The group is committed to the practical application

1-13     of their philosophy, and its members devote much time and energy to

1-14     political work, lending their skills and dedication to numerous

1-15     election campaigns; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The contributions of the Republican Women of

1-17     Arlington are not limited to the field of politics, and the

1-18     organization's members are vital and valued participants in the

1-19     Help One Student To Succeed program, which targets children reading

1-20     below their grade level for special help and attention; in addition

1-21     to giving freely of their time, these dedicated volunteers have

1-22     donated books and clothing to students in the program; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Citizen participation in the workings of government

1-24     is a cornerstone of the democratic process, and through their

 2-1     education of the public on conservative issues and philosophy and

 2-2     their active involvement in politics, the Republican Women of

 2-3     Arlington proudly uphold this vital tradition; now, therefore, be

 2-4     it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-6     Legislature hereby welcome the members of the Republican Women of

 2-7     Arlington to the State Capitol and extend to them sincere best

 2-8     wishes for continued success in the years to come; and, be it

 2-9     further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-12     House of Representatives.
