                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Ofilia Lopez de la Garza on March 19,

 1-2     1995, at the age of 79, brought a great loss to the family and many

 1-3     friends of this beloved woman; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. de la Garza was born May 18, 1915, in Lopeno,

 1-5     Texas, and was descended from the early settlers of Zapata County;

 1-6     as a young woman, she wed Alfredo de la Garza, and the couple

 1-7     enjoyed a happy and rewarding union that was blessed with 10

 1-8     children and that spanned more than four decades until her

 1-9     husband's passing in 1981; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Well known throughout the community of Alton,

1-11     Mrs. de la Garza was the proprietress of a local grocery store

1-12     there for nearly 30 years and served as an outstanding role model

1-13     for the members of her family, having helped all of her children to

1-14     strive toward achieving their highest potential; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Above all else, Mrs. de la Garza was a devoted

1-16     family member and a loyal friend and neighbor who always made time

1-17     in her busy day to offer fellowship to others; her love and support

1-18     guided her family and friends through life's endeavors and

1-19     continues to inspire all who were privileged to know her; and

1-20           WHEREAS, During her lifetime, Ofilia Lopez de la Garza

1-21     touched the lives of many people, and as the second anniversary of

1-22     her death approaches, it is indeed appropriate that we reflect on

1-23     this  fine woman's life; now, therefore, be it

1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-1     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ofilia Lopez

 2-2     de la Garza and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her

 2-3     family: to her daughters, Maria Elena Diaz, Ester Vela, and Lydia

 2-4     Sosa;  to her sons, Dr. Blas de la Garza, Alfredo de la Garza, Jr.,

 2-5     Antonio de la Garza, and Alberto de la Garza; to her  brothers,

 2-6     Raul Lopez, Alberto Lopez, and Lauro Lopez; to her sisters, Petra

 2-7     Rodriguez, Delia Ponce, Eva Sanchez, and Primitiva  Mandujano; to

 2-8     her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to her many other

 2-9     friends and relatives; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas

2-12     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-13     Ofilia Lopez de la Garza.
