No. 440 75R9449 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On March 26, 1997, proud residents of Hillsboro will 1-2 gather in Austin to celebrate Hillsboro Day at the State Capitol, 1-3 and this festive event is an ideal occasion on which to extol this 1-4 typically Texan town's many noteworthy attributes; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Nestled in the rich blackland soil of Central Texas, 1-6 Hillsboro is the county seat for Hill County, and the area's 1-7 abundant and varied natural resources have ensured Hillsboro's 1-8 success as an agricultural center; wheat, corn, cotton, and hay are 1-9 among the region's most successful crops, and ranching is also a 1-10 mainstay of the local economy; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Hillsboro residents take justifiable pride in their 1-12 hometown's colorful history, and this respect for the past is aptly 1-13 embodied in the city's many beautifully restored Victorian homes; 1-14 appropriately, Hillsboro also boasts a number of fine antique 1-15 shops, which attract discriminating connoisseurs from across the 1-16 state; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The town benefits greatly from the presence of Hill 1-18 College, and this institution is home to two of Hillsboro's most 1-19 popular attractions, the Confederate Research Center and the Audie 1-20 Murphy Memorial Gun Museum and Weaponry Library; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Hillsboro's greatest asset remains its dynamic and 1-22 friendly citizens, and even as they take pride and satisfaction in 1-23 their hometown's heritage, they look forward to embracing the 1-24 challenges and opportunities of the future; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby recognize March 26, 1997, as Hillsboro Day at 2-3 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the Hillsboro 2-4 delegation; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for the Hillsboro delegation as an expression of high 2-7 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
