R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Robert Varney "Bob" King has for many years given
1-2 freely of his time and talents to his adopted hometown of
1-3 Whitesboro, and it is indeed appropriate at this time to recognize
1-4 his outstanding efforts in behalf of the community; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Since 1985, Mr. King has been a loyal member of the
1-6 Edmund Terrill Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and
1-7 soon after his induction, he hit upon the idea of generating
1-8 revenue for the organization through the collection and recycling
1-9 of aluminum cans; and
1-10 WHEREAS, The funds raised in this innovative fashion were
1-11 soon substantial enough to be set aside as a scholarship fund, and
1-12 in 1991 the chapter officially designated this worthy endeavor the
1-13 Robert Varney King Scholarship Program; since that time the fund
1-14 has continued to grow and flourish, and over the years, Mr. King's
1-15 can collection efforts, aided and abetted by his wife, Edna, have
1-16 added more than $6,000 to the organization's coffers; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. King's contributions to the chapter are not
1-18 limited to his fund-raising work; he served his compatriots in the
1-19 capacity of chaplain for many years, and he was instrumental in
1-20 opening the group's meetings to the participation of women; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Residents of the Lone Star State are known
1-22 throughout the world for their resourcefulness and generosity of
1-23 spirit, and through his mutually beneficial association with the
1-24 Edmund Terrill Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Bob
2-1 King has aptly embodied these typically Texan traits; now,
2-2 therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-4 Legislature hereby honor Robert Varney "Bob" King for his many
2-5 contributions to his community and extend to him sincere best
2-6 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-8 prepared for Mr. King as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-9 House of Representatives.
