No. 450 75R8460 JHS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, March 1, 1997, was a day of great significance for 1-2 Calvin and Rachel Hurlock of Denison, for on that day this couple 1-3 observed their 50th wedding anniversary; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Hurlock and the former Rachel M. Wilkins were 1-5 united in matrimony on March 1, 1947, at Centennial Baptist Church 1-6 in Washington, D.C.; to commemorate this blessed event, the 1-7 Hurlocks celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at a reception 1-8 hosted by their daughters and attended by the members of their 1-9 family; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A 27-year veteran of the United States Air Force, 1-11 Mr. Hurlock saw active duty in the Pacific Theater during World War 1-12 II, as well as in Korea and Vietnam; he is the recipient of the 1-13 Bronze Star for Meritorious Service, a Presidential Citation, five 1-14 Battle Stars, and numerous campaign ribbons; and 1-15 WHEREAS, After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Hurlock was 1-16 employed by the United States Postal Service, from which he has 1-17 since retired; this remarkable gentleman is also a 32nd degree 1-18 Mason and is a loyal and active member of the Masonic organization; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hurlock is a graduate of Lane High School in 1-21 Charlottesville, Virginia, and has worked in a Washington, D.C. law 1-22 firm and as an employee of the federal government; in addition to 1-23 playing the often demanding role of Air Force wife and mother, 1-24 Mrs. Hurlock has worked and traveled in several foreign countries, 2-1 and since settling in Denison, she has made a career for herself in 2-2 the ladies' retail apparel business; and 2-3 WHEREAS, The Hurlocks' joyous union has produced four lovely 2-4 daughters, Nancy Lee Lakey, Linda Sue Harris, Peggy Ann Lowe, and 2-5 Deborah Dianne Hood, and their close-knit family has grown to 2-6 include five granddaughters, one grandson, and a 2-7 great-granddaughter; and 2-8 WHEREAS, For a half-century, Calvin and Rachel Hurlock have 2-9 enjoyed a strong and lasting marriage filled with many happy times 2-10 and cherished family memories; their relationship has been a 2-11 constant source of pride and inspiration to their family and 2-12 friends, and it is truly appropriate that they be honored at this 2-13 time; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-15 Legislature hereby congratulate Calvin and Rachel Hurlock on the 2-16 occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them 2-17 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-18 years to come; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Hurlock as an expression of high regard 2-21 by the Texas House of Representatives.
