R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Silsbee High School Lady Tigers basketball team
1-2 has achieved outstanding success during the 1996-1997 season,
1-3 including earning a coveted berth in the University Interscholastic
1-4 League Class 4A state tournament; and
1-5 WHEREAS, After emerging from District 19 4A to claim the
1-6 Region 3 championship, Silsbee High School took their talented
1-7 squad to Austin to compete for the state title, and the Lady
1-8 Tigers earned the respect and admiration of all those who witnessed
1-9 their spirited performance; and
1-10 WHEREAS, The Lady Tigers' success was a result of total
1-11 dedication to the team concept by players Brandi McCain, Marisa
1-12 Renfro, Shondala Lockett, Shandy Carter, Melissa Mullins, Jinneh
1-13 Dyson, De De Elam, Demetrice Fowler, Sheila Sapp, and Brandy
1-14 Arline; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Head coach Kim Albers, ably supported by assistant
1-16 coach Robert Hollyfield, provided exceptional leadership and
1-17 guidance that enabled the players to perform to the best of their
1-18 abilities; and
1-19 WHEREAS, This group of inspirational young women, along with
1-20 their coaches and staff, are a source of great pride to the
1-21 students and faculty at Silsbee High School and their many
1-22 supporters in the community, and their many notable accomplishments
1-23 are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition at this time;
1-24 now, therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate the Silsbee High School Lady Tigers
2-3 basketball team on their splendid achievements during the 1996-1997
2-4 season and extend best wishes for continued success in the future;
2-5 and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for the team members and coaching staff as an expression
2-8 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
