                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, While few athletic teams are able to realize the

 1-2     dream of attaining a state championship in their given sport, fewer

 1-3     still can marshal the dedication and drive needed to duplicate such

 1-4     a phenomenal task; among that elite group is the Kimball High

 1-5     School Knights boys' basketball team, which recently earned its

 1-6     second consecutive University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class

 1-7     5-A state title; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Having marched through the playoffs to earn a

 1-9     coveted berth in the state tournament, Kimball High School faced

1-10     Duncanville High School in its semifinal matchup, and the Knights

1-11     demonstrated true championship heart, coming from behind in

1-12     dramatic fashion to win 63-60; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Determined to become the first Class 5-A team in

1-14     over a decade to win consecutive championships, Kimball took the

1-15     floor against North Shore High School and, led by title game most

1-16     valuable player Brandon Burney, the Knights won handily 64-53 to

1-17     complete their season with a record of 38 wins against only two

1-18     defeats; and

1-19           WHEREAS, The successful defense of the Knights' state title

1-20     was the result of total dedication to the team concept by players

1-21     Brandon Thomas, Ji Thomas, Jeryl Sasser, Brandon Burney, Quinton

1-22     Ross, Maurius Miles, Ryan Foppe, Carl Thomas, Toby Connley, Lonnie

1-23     Gusters, Shanard Reese, Corey Stevenson, Kendrick Patterson,

1-24     Terrance Andrews, and Andrew Watson; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Head Coach Goree Johnson instilled in each of his

 2-2     charges an unquenchable will to win and he was ably supported in

 2-3     his efforts by assistant coaches Royce Johnson, Melvin Lark, and

 2-4     Victor Bell; stat coach Leonard Johnson; and managers Donald Burney

 2-5     and Kenard Andrews; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, This dedicated group of young men, together with

 2-7     their coaches and staff, are a tremendous source of pride to the

 2-8     students and faculty of Kimball High School and their many

 2-9     supporters in the community, and their exceptional achievements

2-10     have rightfully earned them special legislative recognition at this

2-11     time; now, therefore, be it

2-12           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-13     Legislature hereby congratulate the members and coaching staff of

2-14     the Kimball High School Knights boys' basketball team on winning

2-15     their second consecutive UIL Class 5-A state title and extend

2-16     sincere best wishes to them for continued success in the future;

2-17     and, be it further

2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-19     prepared for the team members and coaching staff as an expression

2-20     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
