                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Bryant of San Antonio was recently chosen

 1-2     to receive the Outstanding Citizenship Award for 1997 by the San

 1-3     Antonio Community of Churches and this prestigious honor is indeed

 1-4     well deserved; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Born December 13, 1930, in San Antonio, he was

 1-6     graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School and began his higher

 1-7     education in the Alamo City at St. Phillip's Junior College; he

 1-8     continued his pursuit of academic excellence at Prairie View A&M

 1-9     College, where he earned his bachelor of science degree and went on

1-10     to attain his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical

1-11     Branch in Galveston; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Dr. Bryant served his internship at Robert B. Green

1-13     Hospital and was a valuable member of our nation's armed forces as

1-14     a physician for the U.S. Army from 1957 through 1960, when he left

1-15     the service to begin his private practice; and

1-16           WHEREAS, A dynamic presence in the local medical community,

1-17     he was the cofounder and first medical director of the Ella Austin

1-18     Health Clinic and the codeveloper of the east San Antonio Medical

1-19     Center; additionally, he was chief of staff at Santa Rosa Medical

1-20     Center and has been a guiding force for the Bexar County Medical

1-21     Society since 1961, serving that organization in a variety of

1-22     capacities; and

1-23           WHEREAS, He has also labored to benefit his fellow citizens

1-24     as a member of the Texas Board of Health for 12 years, and during

 2-1     his fine tenure, served as its chairman for  four years; he is

 2-2     currently chairman of the board of trustees of City Public Service,

 2-3     secretary of the board of trustees for the Texas Medical

 2-4     Foundation, and chairman of the board of trustees of Second Baptist

 2-5     Church; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, Dr. Bryant maintains active membership in a number

 2-7     of prestigious professional organizations, including the American

 2-8     Medical Association, National Medical Association, American Academy

 2-9     of Family Practice, Texas Medical Association, and the Lone Star

2-10     State Medical Association; he is also a past president of both the

2-11     Bexar County Chapter of the Texas Academy of Family Practice and

2-12     the C. A. Whittier Chapter of the National Medical Association, and

2-13     is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and a

2-14     fellow with the American Academy of Family Physicians; and

2-15           WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father as well, Dr. Bryant has

2-16     shared more than four decades of love and respect with his wife,

2-17     Gloria, and the couple have been blessed with five daughters, two

2-18     of whom have followed their father into the medical profession as

2-19     physicians; and

2-20           WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Bryant has truly set a sterling example to

2-21     which all who practice the art of healing may aspire; his

2-22     generosity and dedication are an inspiration to all who know him,

2-23     and it is indeed appropriate that he be given special legislative

2-24     recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it

2-25           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-26     Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Frank Bryant on being named the

2-27     recipient of the 1997 Outstanding Citizenship Award and extend to

 3-1     him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the

 3-2     future; and, be it further

 3-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 3-4     prepared for Dr. Bryant as an expression of high regard by the

 3-5     Texas House of Representatives.
