R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Dr. James Richard Marshall has devoted much of his

 1-2     life to caring for prematurely born infants, and his dedication to

 1-3     the welfare of his young patients is indeed deserving of special

 1-4     legislative recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall received his Doctor of Osteopathy

 1-6     degree from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine after

 1-7     earning degrees from Texas Christian University and Mesa College in

 1-8     Grand Junction, Colorado; after completing his internship and

 1-9     residency, he accepted a Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship from

1-10     Houston's Baylor College of Medicine in 1974; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Since January 1992, this native Texan has been in

1-12     private practice at the Abilene Regional Medical Center, where he

1-13     is director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; from 1983 to 1991,

1-14     Dr. Marshall was a neonatologist at the Tulsa Regional Medical

1-15     Center while also serving as a clinical instructor for Oklahoma

1-16     State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine; and

1-17           WHEREAS, A member of both the American Osteopathic

1-18     Association and the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians,

1-19     Dr. Marshall has cared for some 800 premature or critically ill

1-20     infants; he established the Preemie Support Group in Abilene to

1-21     help parents and family members cope with this traumatic event and

1-22     has held two highly successful Preemie Reunions for his former

1-23     patients and their parents; and

1-24           WHEREAS, This commendable gentleman's dynamic leadership and

 2-1     remarkable compassion have helped to distinguish him from his

 2-2     peers, and the members of this chamber take great pride in honoring

 2-3     him for his exemplary efforts at this time; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby honor Dr. James Richard Marshall for his service

 2-6     to his community and extend to him sincere best wishes for

 2-7     continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it

 2-8     further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-10     prepared for Dr. Marshall as an expression of high regard by the

2-11     Texas House of Representatives.
