R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 David Lattin for his many notable contributions to the storied 1-3 legacy of athletic achievement in the State of Texas; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Houston, this exceptional athlete saw 1-5 his remarkable basketball talent blossom while a student at Evan E. 1-6 Worthing Senior High School; during his years there, he was the 1-7 driving force on his basketball team, taking them to the state 1-8 title in 1962 while earning high school All American honors and 1-9 averaging 29 points, 19 rebounds, and 13 blocked shots per game; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, He next became a star player at Texas Western 1-12 University under legendary coach Don Haskins and helped lead his 1-13 squad to the 1968 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) 1-14 championship, the only national basketball championship ever won by 1-15 a Texas team; and 1-16 WHEREAS, On concluding his stellar college career, he was 1-17 drafted by the San Francisco Warriors of the National Basketball 1-18 Association and spent one year with the Warriors before moving to 1-19 the Phoenix Suns; he then took his considerable talents to the 1-20 American Basketball Association, playing at both Pittsburgh and 1-21 Memphis, and spent three years delighting basketball fans as a 1-22 member of the Harlem Globetrotters; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Lattin is currently an advertising executive 1-24 with Tarrant Distributors and has brought to the business world the 2-1 same dedication and competitive drive that garnered him success on 2-2 the basketball court; and 2-3 WHEREAS, David Lattin has earned a rightful place in the 2-4 pantheon of superb athletes who hail from the Lone Star State and 2-5 it is fitting that he receive special legislative recognition for 2-6 his many achievements at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate David Lattin on his splendid 2-9 athletic accomplishments and extend to him best wishes for 2-10 continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Mr. Lattin as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
