                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Whiteface High School girls' basketball team

 1-2     captured the 1996-1997 Class 1A State Basketball Championship with

 1-3     a  dominating 59-39 victory over Celeste High School; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, The Lady Lopes spent the season ranked in the top

 1-5     five and then turned up the energy as they entered the playoffs,

 1-6     defeating teams from Paducah, Sudan, and Spur; in their state

 1-7     semifinal game, Whiteface easily overcame Henrietta Midway High

 1-8     School by a score of 83-37 before their matchup against Celeste;

 1-9     and

1-10           WHEREAS, Led by state tournament MVP Amy Foote, a first team

1-11     all-state selection, and Janan Bankhead, a second team all-state

1-12     selection who was also named to the all-tournament team, the Lady

1-13     Lopes finished the season with an impressive 35-1 record; this

1-14     remarkably talented squad truly exemplified the team concept, with

1-15     every member making a substantial contribution to the championship

1-16     season; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Head Coach Craig Summers has schooled his players in

1-18     the finer points of basketball while also emphasizing the virtues

1-19     of good sportsmanship and academic excellence; he was ably

1-20     supported in these efforts by assistant coaches Eliseo Rocha and

1-21     Amie Albus, as well as managers Sheila Boots, Brianna Llamas,

1-22     Stephanie Pompa, and Jamie Thomas; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a

1-24     team has been a hallmark of the Lady Lopes, whose team members

 2-1     include Rachel Ashmore, Janan Bankhead, Janie Flores, Christi

 2-2     Reynolds, C. C. Cano, Amy Foote, Tina Albus, Lauren Carr, Becca

 2-3     Clawson, Tamber Fietz, Ronni Foote, Sommer Moses, Jennifer

 2-4     Stockman, Tiffany Albus, and Sam McCasland; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, These talented young women, as well as their coaches

 2-6     and staff, are a tremendous source of pride for the students and

 2-7     faculty of Whiteface High School and their many supporters in the

 2-8     community, and this most recent accomplishment has rightfully

 2-9     earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-11     Legislature hereby congratulate the Whiteface High School Lady

2-12     Lopes on winning the Class 1A State Basketball Championship and

2-13     extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success and

2-14     happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for the team and coaching staff as an expression of high

2-17     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
