R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Tulia High School boys' basketball team is to be
1-2 commended for its exceptional season and for providing longtime
1-3 Hornet fans with many great memories and a future bright with
1-4 promise; and
1-5 WHEREAS, After capturing their regional championship with a
1-6 45-38 win over Seminole High School, the team earned a berth in the
1-7 1996-97 state championship tournament, in which the Hornets easily
1-8 dispatched Sinton High School by a score of 73-56 before meeting
1-9 Dallas Madison High School in the championship game; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Head Coach Tommy Miller has schooled his young
1-11 charges in hardcourt fundamentals while instilling in them the
1-12 importance of sportsmanship and teamwork both on and off the court;
1-13 he has been ably assisted in these endeavors by assistant coaches
1-14 Jimmy Burleson and Vaughn Zwick, as well as team manager Roman
1-15 Pacheco; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a
1-17 team has been a hallmark of the Hornets, whose team members include
1-18 Chris Burrow, Nathan Culwell, Dale Dawson, Mark Dyer, Daniel
1-19 Gibson, Mikey Marshall, Phillip Marshall, Tim Marshall, Lance
1-20 McCaslin, Jeremy Patton, Lane Russell, Charles Sims, and Dane
1-21 Swinburn; and
1-22 WHEREAS, These talented young men have rallied the students
1-23 and faculty of Tulia High School and have given the team's many
1-24 supporters in the community an opportunity to proudly display their
2-1 team colors, and the Hornets' tremendous season has rightfully
2-2 earned the team special legislative recognition at this time; now,
2-3 therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate Head Coach Tommy Miller and the
2-6 Tulia High School Hornets on their outstanding season and extend to
2-7 them sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the
2-8 years to come; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-10 prepared for the team and coaching staff as an expression of high
2-11 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
