                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Zachary Charles Breaux on

 1-2     February 20, 1997, at the age of 36, has brought a great loss to

 1-3     the family and many friends of this fine gentleman; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Port Arthur, Mr. Breaux became

 1-5     interested in music as a child when his friend began playing the

 1-6     cello; his uncle gave him his first guitar, and he studied the

 1-7     music of jazz greats John Coltrane and Wes Montgomery before moving

 1-8     to New York; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. Breaux produced three albums, and his recent

1-10     recording, Uptown Groove, with its hit single, a remake of Never

1-11     Can Say Goodbye, debuted high on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz

1-12     chart in February; in addition,  this esteemed artist has

1-13     entertained audiences on extensive tours throughout Europe and

1-14     Africa; and

1-15           WHEREAS, He  consistently made time in his busy schedule to

1-16     offer fellowship to others; deeply committed to the young people of

1-17     his community, he often would visit with students at his alma

1-18     mater, Lincoln High School, when he was in the Port Arthur area;

1-19     and

1-20           WHEREAS, A true hero as well as a man of immense compassion,

1-21     he saved a man from drowning in Italy in 1988, and he was trying to

1-22     save a swimmer caught in a riptide off the coast of Florida when he

1-23     died; and

1-24           WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Breaux was sustained by

 2-1     his abiding commitment to his family, and his devotion to his wife

 2-2     and three children was a source of inspiration to all who knew him;

 2-3     now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Zachary Charles

 2-6     Breaux and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to

 2-7     his beloved wife, Frederica Clark Breaux; to his three daughters,

 2-8     Alexis Breaux, Mia Breaux, and Nina Breaux; to his parents, Manuel

 2-9     Breaux, Sr., and Verlie Breaux; to his four sisters, Verlie

2-10     Johnson, Manuelene Jimenez, Stephaine Hyder, and Johnette Green; to

2-11     his brothers, Johnnie Breaux and Manuel Breaux, Jr.; to his

2-12     godbrother, Felder Williams; and to his many other friends and

2-13     relatives; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-15     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-16     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-17     Zachary Charles Breaux.
