R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two exceptional Texans
1-2 who have shared 50 happy and rewarding years of marriage is indeed
1-3 a joyous occasion worthy of special praise and recognition; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Roland and Virginia Cain will have the privilege of
1-5 commemorating such a momentous event in their lives when they
1-6 celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on April 5, 1997; the
1-7 couple will be the guests of honor at a reception hosted by family
1-8 and friends at the Bauer Community Center in Port Lavaca; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Roland Sample Cain and the former Virginia Dora
1-10 Harris met in 1941 while working at ALCOA's East St. Louis
1-11 operations in Illinois, and six years later they were united in
1-12 matrimony in Belleville, Illinois; proud attendants to this
1-13 destined union were best man Robert Cain and matron of honor
1-14 Mildred Harris Rose; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Cain made their first home in East St.
1-16 Louis, Illinois, for many years before moving their young family to
1-17 Point Comfort, Texas, in 1956 and Port Lavaca in 1965; the Cains
1-18 have been blessed with four children, Russell Lynn, Sharon Ann,
1-19 Barbara Jean, and Alan Donald, and in recent years their family has
1-20 grown to include 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all
1-21 of whom are a great source of pride and joy to the Cains; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Cain retired from ALCOA as chief chemist in 1982
1-23 after 44 years of distinguished service, while Mrs. Cain has
1-24 dedicated herself to the well-being of her husband and family as a
2-1 homemaker throughout their marriage; now enjoying their leisure
2-2 years together, Mr. and Mrs. Cain continue to be involved with
2-3 community and civic organizations; and
2-4 WHEREAS, Through the years the Cains have been active in the
2-5 Boy Scouts, the Brownies, the Girl Scouts, Little League, and the
2-6 PTA; Mr. Cain is currently active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars
2-7 and in the past has served as its post commander; Mrs. Cain keeps
2-8 busy with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and
2-9 has held numerous offices within that organization; and
2-10 WHEREAS, For half a century, Roland and Virginia Cain have
2-11 shared a strong marriage filled with many happy times and cherished
2-12 family memories; their lasting commitment to each other has been
2-13 built on a solid foundation of mutual love, respect, and trust,
2-14 and this remarkable union is indeed worthy of our highest praise
2-15 and recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-17 Legislature hereby congratulate Roland and Virginia Cain on the
2-18 occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them
2-19 warmest best wishes for continued happiness in the future; and, be
2-20 it further
2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-22 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Cain as an expression of high regard by
2-23 the Texas House of Representatives.
