R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Ruth Hambrick Reynolds on
 1-2     February 6, 1997, at the age of 100, has brought a great loss to
 1-3     the family and friends of this beloved woman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Reynolds was born in Tyler on December 31,
 1-5     1896, and was the daughter of James H. and Minni C. Hambrick; she
 1-6     became the bride of Smith Perry Reynolds on December 12, 1923, and
 1-7     the couple's happy union produced two sons; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, A great believer in service to her country and
 1-9     community, Mrs. Reynolds volunteered in war relief efforts during
1-10     World War II with the Gray Ladies, the American Red Cross, and the
1-11     Salvation Army; a devoted wife as well, she strongly supported her
1-12     husband in his civic activities and contributions; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Described by her family and friends as a "Queen
1-14     Without a Crown," this elegant lady was an original member of the
1-15     Tyler Garden Club, helping to found Tyler's Azalea and Spring
1-16     Flower Trail, and was also a lifetime member of the First Baptist
1-17     Church of Tyler; and
1-18           WHEREAS, In addition, Mrs. Reynolds was an attentive and
1-19     affectionate mother who provided a loving and Christian home for
1-20     her two sons, who describe her as "the most wonderful mother ever";
1-21     and
1-22           WHEREAS, Ruth Reynolds was a compassionate and caring woman
1-23     whose earnest commitment to her family and to God was an
1-24     inspiration to all who knew her, and though her guidance and
 2-1     devotion will be greatly missed, her spirit will surely live on in
 2-2     the hearts of the many people whose lives she touched; now,
 2-3     therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Ruth Hambrick Reynolds and
 2-6     extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons,
 2-7     Smith P.  Reynolds, Jr., and James H. Reynolds; to her two
 2-8     grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to the many other
 2-9     relatives and friends of this admirable woman; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-12     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-13     Ruth Hambrick Reynolds.
