R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, April 5, 1997, has been designated as Desert

 1-2     Squadron Fly-In Day in Ector County, and this notable occasion is

 1-3     truly worthy of special praise and recognition at this time; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, The members of the Desert Squadron of the

 1-5     Confederate Air Force are dedicated to honoring America's veterans,

 1-6     and by keeping alive the memory of their fellow citizens'

 1-7     sacrifices they honor the principles on which our nation was

 1-8     founded; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, The squadron's fly-in will commemorate the

1-10     contributions of the American military with a stirring display of

1-11     vintage World War II aircraft in flight, and a highlight of the

1-12     day's events will be the dedication of a Veterans Honor Wall, which

1-13     will honor veterans of every service from all eras; and

1-14           WHEREAS, The members of the Desert Squadron will also take

1-15     this opportunity to honor Odessa resident Hugh Wilson, who during

1-16     World War II flew more than 130 missions in Europe and Japan;

1-17     wounded after the war, this loyal patriot aptly embodies the values

1-18     that the day's festivities celebrate; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Americans from all walks of life owe an incalculable

1-20     debt to the brave men and women who have served their country in

1-21     the armed forces, and by preserving the legacy of these defenders

1-22     of liberty, the members of the Desert Squadron ensure that future

1-23     generations will better appreciate their nation's proud history;

1-24     now, therefore, be it

 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-2     Legislature hereby recognize April 5, 1997, as Desert Squadron

 2-3     Fly-In Day in Ector County and extend to all those associated with

 2-4     this event sincere best wishes for continued success in the future;

 2-5     and, be it further

 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-7     prepared for the members of the Desert Squadron of the Confederate

 2-8     Air Force as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of

 2-9     Representatives.
