                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Duncanville High School Pantherettes captured

 1-2     the Class 5A State Basketball Championship with a hard-fought 44-33

 1-3     win over the Alief Elsik High School Lady Rams on March 1, 1997;

 1-4     and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Playing in front of a crowd of 8,140 in Austin's

 1-6     Frank Erwin Center, the Pantherettes got off to a slow start before

 1-7     coming on strong in the second half to beat a tough Alief Elsik

 1-8     team; the win earned Duncanville High School its fifth state crown,

 1-9     which tied the school for the state record, and capped off a

1-10     school-record 40-0 season; and

1-11           WHEREAS, The championship is the first under Head Coach Sara

1-12     Hackerott, who served as an assistant to the late Sandra Meadows,

1-13     the legendary Duncanville basketball coach who helped establish the

1-14     school's exemplary basketball program; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Coach Hackerott has schooled her young players in

1-16     hardcourt fundamentals while at the same time instilling in them

1-17     the virtues of academic excellence and good sportsmanship, and she

1-18     was ably supported in her efforts by Assistant Coach Christie Capps

1-19     Sparks, team managers Sharyn Rogers and Dominique Wright, student

1-20     trainer Sharonda Houston, and athletic trainers Dave Burton and

1-21     Julie Torre; and

1-22           WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a

1-23     team has been a hallmark of the Pantherettes, whose team members

1-24     include Jessica Barr-Long, Andrea Bentley, Briana Brown, Tamika

 2-1     Catchings, Angela Francis, Dana Godfrey, Alana Griffin, Julie

 2-2     Jespersen, Kenya Larkin, Portia Lowe, Remy McElroy, Jalie Mitchell,

 2-3     Shunda Murray, Dawn Owens, and LaDonna Palmer; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, These talented young women, as well as their coaches

 2-5     and staff, are a tremendous source of pride for the students and

 2-6     faculty of Duncanville High School and their many supporters in the

 2-7     community, and this most recent accomplishment has rightfully

 2-8     earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-10     Legislature hereby congratulate Head Coach Sara Hackerott and the

2-11     Duncanville High School Pantherettes on winning the 1997 Class 5A

2-12     State Basketball Championship; and, be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-14     prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-15     House of Representatives.
