R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans 1-2 who have shared 50 happy and rewarding years of marriage is truly a 1-3 memorable occasion worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, John and Martha Biggerstaff commemorated such a 1-5 momentous event in their lives when they celebrated their golden 1-6 wedding anniversary on January 11, 1997, with a festive reception 1-7 and dance at the Whitewright Civic Center hosted by the couple's 1-8 daughter; and 1-9 WHEREAS, United in matrimony at Mrs. Biggerstaff's parents' 1-10 home in the community of Grove Hill on December 25, 1946, the 1-11 Biggerstaffs have nurtured an enduring relationship that has grown 1-12 in love and mutual respect with each passing year, and they have 1-13 enriched not only their own lives, but the lives of those around 1-14 them, with their devotion to each other; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Throughout the years, the couple have been highly 1-16 regarded for their public service; Mr. Biggerstaff was the 1-17 postmaster of Whitewright for 35 years, and Mrs. Biggerstaff 1-18 addressed the health care needs of her community as a school nurse; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, The pair enjoy a rich family heritage; 1-21 Mr. Biggerstaff hails from the community of Tom Bean and is the son 1-22 of Aaron "Tinker" and Monnie Biggerstaff, while his lovely and 1-23 gracious wife was born in the town of Leonard to Carl and Lula 1-24 Wilkinson, and the couple are the proud parents of Dr. Jane 2-1 Biggerstaff, who is a veterinarian in Laredo; and 2-2 WHEREAS, For a half-century, John and Martha Biggerstaff have 2-3 shared a warm and affectionate union filled with many happy times 2-4 and cherished family memories; built on a solid foundation of trust 2-5 and support, their life together has been a source of joy and 2-6 inspiration to the many friends and family of this fortunate pair; 2-7 now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby congratulate John and Martha Biggerstaff on the 2-10 occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them 2-11 warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Biggerstaff as an expression of high 2-14 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
