R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On April 8, 1997, Her Excellency Ruth Segomotsi 1-2 Mompati, Ambassador of South Africa, will be at the State Capitol, 1-3 and this historic occasion is indeed worthy of special praise and 1-4 recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Currently serving as South Africa's ambassador to 1-6 Switzerland, this distinguished woman has been at the center of the 1-7 remarkable historic events that have shaped her country in recent 1-8 years, and her unique perspective on this momentous era in history 1-9 is of great interest not only to students of international affairs 1-10 but also to those seeking to further the cause of democracy around 1-11 the world; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A vital and valued member of the African National 1-13 Congress, Ambassador Mompati has lent her skill and integrity to a 1-14 number of positions in the organization over the years; a member of 1-15 the National Executive Committee, she has also served in 1-16 Parliament, where she sat on the portfolio committees on welfare 1-17 and education, and she chaired the Ad Hoc Committee on Gender 1-18 Equality; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Ambassador Mompati's contributions to her community 1-20 extend far beyond her political career, and she has given freely of 1-21 her time and energy to serve on the boards of numerous 1-22 organizations, including the Tiger Kloof Educational Institution, 1-23 the FUNDANI Bursary Trust, the Sol Plaatjie Education 1-24 Centre/Museum, and the Disabled Children's Organization; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Her commitment to the well-being of the people of 2-2 South Africa is also made manifest in her work in provincial 2-3 development, and her advocacy of health and education initiatives 2-4 in these areas has greatly benefited her fellow citizens; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of her country and its 2-6 people, Ambassador Ruth Segomotsi Mompati's many accomplishments 2-7 have earned her the admiration and gratitude of people around the 2-8 world, and it is indeed a pleasure and a privilege to welcome her 2-9 at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby welcome Her Excellency Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, 2-12 Ambassador of South Africa to the Texas State Capitol and extend to 2-13 her sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and successful visit; and, 2-14 be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for Ambassador Mompati as an expression of high regard by 2-17 the Texas House of Representatives.
