R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Cornerstone Christian School Eagles captured the

 1-2     1996-97 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS)

 1-3     Class 2A State Basketball Championship with a dynamic 63-49 win

 1-4     over the Dallas Temple Christian Blazers on February 21, 1997; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Led by senior guard Brandon Manis's 19 points, the

 1-6     Eagles managed to keep the Blazers at bay throughout the game

 1-7     before pouring it on in the final minutes; All-Tournament junior

 1-8     guard Matthew Collver added 16 points, including several key

 1-9     baskets late in the fourth quarter, and other valuable

1-10     contributions were made by fellow All-Tournament team members Matt

1-11     Roberts and David Carl; and

1-12           WHEREAS, The championship is the first state title in the

1-13     history of Cornerstone Christian School's basketball program and

1-14     this achievement will no doubt be fondly remembered for many years

1-15     to come; this total team effort exemplifies the selfless style of

1-16     basketball played by these young athletes, and their victory was

1-17     well deserved; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Head Coach Scott Vaughan has schooled his players in

1-19     the finer points of basketball while also emphasizing the virtues

1-20     of good sportsmanship and academic excellence; he was ably

1-21     supported in these endeavors by assistant coaches Eldon Fuel, Danny

1-22     Ducharme, and Hank Moore, and team managers Ami Blevins, Sarah

1-23     Matteson, and Heather Climer; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a

 2-1     team has been a hallmark of the Eagles, whose team members include

 2-2     Donny Boaz, Jon Hopps, Clayton Brooks, Josh Fuel, David Carl, Chris

 2-3     Shelton, Matthew Collver, Nick Fuel, Brandon Manis, Matt Roberts,

 2-4     and Diron Whitaker; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, These talented young men, as well as their coaches

 2-6     and staff, are a tremendous source of pride for the students and

 2-7     faculty of Cornerstone Christian School and their many supporters,

 2-8     and this most recent accomplishment has rightfully earned them

 2-9     special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-11     Legislature hereby congratulate Head Coach Scott Vaughan and the

2-12     Cornerstone Christian School Eagles on winning the 1996-97 TAPPS

2-13     Class 2A State Basketball Championship and extend to them sincere

2-14     best wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to

2-15     come; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-17     prepared for the team and coaching staff as an expression of high

2-18     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
