R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Both as a teacher and as an administrator, Robert L. 1-2 Gray contributed greatly to public education in the Houston 1-3 community, and in recognition of his accomplishments, the Texas 1-4 Legislative Black Caucus named him an Outstanding Texan; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Gray was graduated from Huston-Tillotson 1-6 University before earning two master's degrees in education from 1-7 Texas Southern University; and 1-8 WHEREAS, He is highly regarded for his distinguished career 1-9 with the Houston Independent School District, which spanned 30 1-10 years until his retirement; Mr. Gray mentored thousands of young 1-11 Texans during his service as a teacher, a counselor, and an 1-12 assistant principal, and his 30-Year Service Pin from the district 1-13 is a testament to the contributions he made; and 1-14 WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman further works for the 1-15 betterment of his community through his outstanding civic 1-16 involvement; in addition to coordinating the Mayor's Summer Youth 1-17 Program for many years, he has been a court volunteer for Harris 1-18 County and also directed the Alpha Merit Group with Alpha Phi 1-19 Alpha fraternity; and 1-20 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he is sustained by his faith 1-21 as a devout member of Sloan Memorial United Methodist Church, where 1-22 he currently is chairman of trustees; his stalwart service has 1-23 brought him well-deserved recognition, for he has been honored with 1-24 the church's Outstanding Christian Service Award; and 2-1 WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Gray has received Alpha Phi Alpha 2-2 fraternity's Service Award, Harris County Court's Twenty-Year 2-3 Service Award, and the Y.M.C.A.'s Leadership Fellowship Award; and 2-4 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Gray is the beloved 2-5 husband of Lois E. Gray and the proud father of two children, Erie 2-6 Stelly and Eric V. Gray; more recently, the Grays have welcomed the 2-7 addition of three grandchildren, Erica Gray, Amber Stelly, and 2-8 Jared Gray, into their close-knit family; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Robert Gray has worked diligently to improve the 2-10 quality of education and life in his community, and his commitment 2-11 will continue to serve as a source of inspiration to all who are 2-12 privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby honor Robert L. Gray on being named an 2-15 Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend 2-16 to him warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness in 2-17 the future; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Mr. Gray as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-20 House of Representatives.
