By Price H.R. No. 575 75R11289 SAJ-F R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to join 1-2 the Port Arthur community in honoring Dorothy M. Ingram for her 1-3 outstanding service as an educator; in recognition of the many 1-4 contributions she has made through the years, her family and 1-5 friends will join to celebrate her achievements at a banquet held 1-6 in her honor on April 12, 1997, and this tribute is indeed 1-7 well-deserved; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A native of Port Arthur, Miss Ingram attended 1-9 Prairie View A&M University and had a profound effect on public 1-10 education for 40 years as both a teacher and an administrator with 1-11 the local school district; and 1-12 WHEREAS, She served as a positive role model to countless 1-13 Texans as principal of Carver Elementary School from 1952 to 1972, 1-14 and she continued to effectively address a host of important issues 1-15 as principal of both Pease and Wheatley elementary schools before 1-16 retiring in 1975; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator has generously shared her 1-18 wealth of expertise with others in leadership capacities with the 1-19 Port Arthur Chapter of the Retired Teachers Association and the 1-20 Southeast Texas District Principals and Supervisors Association; 1-21 and 1-22 WHEREAS, Her remarkable accomplishments will long endure, for 1-23 a college scholarship has been established in her name, enabling a 1-24 deserving student to follow in her footsteps in this rewarding 2-1 profession; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Miss Ingram has further worked for the betterment of 2-3 her community through her involvement in many civic and political 2-4 organizations, including the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce, the 2-5 Jefferson County Democratic Women's Club, and the Boy Scouts, and 2-6 her remarkable involvement has earned her the heartfelt gratitude 2-7 of many in the community; and 2-8 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, she has been sustained by her 2-9 deep faith as a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, and she has 2-10 shared her devotion with others as an organist for St. Mark 2-11 Lutheran Church; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Dorothy Ingram has enhanced the quality of life in 2-13 Port Arthur in countless ways, and her exceptional commitment is a 2-14 source of inspiration to all who are privileged to know her; now, 2-15 therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby commend Dorothy M. Ingram for her exemplary 2-18 civic and professional involvement and extend to her warmest best 2-19 wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and, be 2-20 it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for Miss Ingram as an expression of high regard by the 2-23 Texas House of Representatives.
