R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of the Honorable Gary Pinkney Pearson,
1-2 Jr., on March 22, 1997, at the age of 72, has brought a great loss
1-3 to the family and many friends of this distinguished Houston
1-4 resident and former member of the Texas House of Representatives;
1-5 and
1-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Pearson was born September 19, 1924, in Anderson
1-7 and earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from The
1-8 University of Texas; he served his country during World War II as
1-9 a member of the United States Navy, and he was recognized with a
1-10 special commendation for his brave and meritorious actions on the
1-11 island of Iwo Jima; and
1-12 WHEREAS, This public-spirited gentleman first won election to
1-13 the Texas House of Representatives in 1948, and he went on to serve
1-14 the citizens of Grimes and Montgomery counties with integrity and
1-15 distinction for three terms before completing his tenure in 1955;
1-16 Mr. Pearson maintained his commitment to public service after
1-17 leaving office by acting as a real estate appraiser for the courts
1-18 of Harris County; and
1-19 WHEREAS, A man of immense vision, Gary Pinkney Pearson, Jr.,
1-20 dedicated much of his life to serving his community and state, and
1-21 though he will be deeply missed by all who knew him, his unique
1-22 spirit will surely live on in the many accomplishments he leaves
1-23 behind; now, therefore, be it
1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Gary
2-2 Pinkney Pearson, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
2-3 his family: to his beloved wife of 43 years, Mary Bain Haralson
2-4 Pearson; to his children, Gary Pinkney Pearson III and his wife
2-5 Karen, James Haralson Pearson and his wife Gayle, and Mary Bain
2-6 Pearson; to his sisters, Mrs. Earl Nichols and Mrs. John Moore; to
2-7 his three grandchildren, Kristin Moore Pearson, Elizabeth Bain
2-8 Pearson, and Megan Haralson Pearson; and to the many other friends
2-9 and relatives of this eminent Texan; and, be it further
2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-12 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-13 the Honorable Gary Pinkney Pearson, Jr.
