R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The people of Texas have greatly benefitted from the 1-2 vision and leadership of Terry L. Childers, and he is indeed worthy 1-3 of special praise and recognition for his outstanding 1-4 contributions; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Childers received a bachelor's degree from 1-6 Abilene Christian University in 1974 before earning a master's 1-7 degree from North Texas State University in 1976; through the 1-8 years, he has remained deeply committed to his undergraduate alma 1-9 mater, having served as a member of the University's Board of 1-10 Trustees; and 1-11 WHEREAS, As an outstanding college student, this high 1-12 achiever had the opportunity to serve as an intern to the 1-13 well-known and admired City Manager, Mr. H.P. Clifton in Abilene 1-14 and confirmed his keen interest in public service; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman realized a childhood goal in 1-16 1975 when he began his career in the field of municipal government 1-17 as the city administrator of Celina, Texas; he later served as 1-18 senior assistant city manager of Austin before being named city 1-19 manager of Oklahoma City, in which capacity he adeptly handled a 1-20 host of important responsibilities before completing his tenure in 1-21 city management in 1989; and 2-1 WHEREAS, During his years in municipal government, 2-2 Mr. Childers contributed to his chosen field as a director of the 2-3 Texas City Management Association and as an esteemed member of both 2-4 the Texas Municipal League and the International City Management 2-5 Association; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Childers left his career in city management to 2-7 open his own business in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he currently 2-8 resides, and for the past eight years has built the firm he 2-9 founded, Childers Construction Company, into a multimillion-dollar 2-10 business that employs 300 people and greatly contributes to the 2-11 local economy; his sound business practices and his outstanding 2-12 record of public service have earned him well-deserved acclaim, and 2-13 he was named chairman of the Oklahoma Human Services Commission in 2-14 1992; and 2-15 WHEREAS, He and his wife have established an endowed 2-16 scholarship fund at Abilene Christian University in honor of his 2-17 beloved parents Watson and Ruby Childers, who were role models to 2-18 their children, neighbors and friends throughout the community in 2-19 Abilene, Texas; and 2-20 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and 2-21 support of his family, which includes his devoted wife, Essie 2-22 Charles Childers, and the couple's two fine sons, Jon and Adam; and 2-23 WHEREAS, Terry Childers has enhanced the quality of life in 2-24 the Lone Star State in countless ways, and his exceptional 2-25 achievements are a source of inspiration to all who are privileged 3-1 to know him; now, therefore, be it 3-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 3-3 Legislature hereby commend Terry L. Childers for his exemplary 3-4 professional leadership and civic involvement and extend to him 3-5 warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness in all his 3-6 future endeavors; and, be it further 3-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-8 prepared for Mr. Childers as an expression of high regard by the 3-9 Texas House of Representatives.
