R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, In June 1997, Marshall Neill is retiring as
1-2 superintendent of the Whitehouse Independent School District,
1-3 drawing to a close a distinguished tenure in the field of public
1-4 education that has spanned more than three decades; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Neill earned a bachelor's degree from Sam
1-6 Houston State University before receiving a master's degree from
1-7 East Texas State University in 1970, and he embarked on his
1-8 noteworthy career with the Cooper ISD in 1963; and
1-9 WHEREAS, After a brief hiatus in private business, Mr. Neill
1-10 began his employment with the Whitehouse ISD as a classroom teacher
1-11 in 1968, and he was later named director of special services before
1-12 he became superintendent in 1987; and
1-13 WHEREAS, He has further contributed to his chosen profession
1-14 as a charter member of the Classroom Teachers Association in
1-15 Whitehouse, and his remarkable commitment has earned him an
1-16 honorary life membership in the Whitehouse Parent-Teacher
1-17 Association; and
1-18 WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has continued to work for
1-19 the betterment of his community through his involvement in numerous
1-20 civic activities, doing everything from coaching little league
1-21 teams, to reading to elementary school children, to helping needy
1-22 individuals during the holidays; and
1-23 WHEREAS, He has served on the boards of the Smith County Drug
1-24 Free Youth in Texas program, the United Way of Tyler and Smith
2-1 County, the Whitehouse Economic Development Council, and the Court
2-2 Appointed Special Advocates; his unwavering support to these and a
2-3 variety of other groups, including the Whitehouse Kiwanis Club, the
2-4 Whitehouse Chamber of Commerce, and the Whitehouse Yesteryear
2-5 Celebration, has helped to make the community a better place in
2-6 which to live, work, and rear a family; and
2-7 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and
2-8 support of his devoted wife, Janet Goldwater Neill, and the
2-9 couple's three children, Robert D. Neill, Lee Ann Barnhardt, and
2-10 Greg Neill; more recently, the Neills have welcomed the addition of
2-11 their children's spouses, Kris Neill, James Barnhardt, and Jackie
2-12 Neill, and a cherished grandchild, Madison Neill, into their
2-13 close-knit family; and
2-14 WHEREAS, A man of immense vision, Marshall Neill has greatly
2-15 enhanced the quality of education and life in his community, and he
2-16 is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition at this time;
2-17 now, therefore, be it
2-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-19 Legislature hereby congratulate Marshall Neill on his outstanding
2-20 service as superintendent of the Whitehouse Independent School
2-21 District and extend to him warmest best wishes for a happy and
2-22 rewarding retirement; and, be it further
2-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-24 prepared for Mr. Neill as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-25 House of Representatives.
