R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, April 12, 1997, marks the celebration of Comal 1-2 County VolunteerFest '97 in New Braunfels; and 1-3 WHEREAS, Organized by Christina Smith and other community 1-4 volunteers, this worthwhile event was inspired by the celebration 1-5 of National Volunteer Week and a summit on volunteerism chaired by 1-6 President Bill Clinton and former President George Bush; and 1-7 WHEREAS, VolunteerFest '97 provides an important function 1-8 for the Comal County area, for in addition to celebrating community 1-9 involvement, it offers abundant opportunities for service groups to 1-10 interact with each other and allows individuals to become familiar 1-11 with the many volunteer opportunities in their community; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The day-long festival promises to be a fun-filled 1-13 event for all in attendance and features a parade, information on 1-14 volunteer activities, and an appreciation party to commemorate the 1-15 community's proud tradition of civic involvement; and 1-16 WHEREAS, By giving generously of their time and talents, its 1-17 citizens have made Comal County a better place in which to live, 1-18 work, and rear a family, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize 1-19 Comal County VolunteerFest '97 in honor of their selfless service; 1-20 now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby commemorate the celebration of Comal County 1-23 VolunteerFest '97 and commend the residents of Comal County for 1-24 their exceptional efforts in behalf of others; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That Comal County be recognized as the Volunteer 2-2 Capital of Texas.
