R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives joins the 1-2 citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Charles M. 1-3 Bolden, who died March 6, 1997, at the age of 82; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born January 21, 1915, in Columbus, Texas, to 1-5 Augustus and Ruth S. Bolden, Charles Bolden graduated from high 1-6 school in Taylor, Texas, and attended Xavier University on a track 1-7 scholarship; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Bolden was dedicated to his work as the first 1-9 recreation coordinator of Corpus Christi's T. C. Ayers Recreation 1-10 Center, where he served for 25 years; he was also the first 1-11 outreach coordinator for HIALCO, Incorporated, a nonprofit 1-12 consortium for community development, and he served as a Deputy Tax 1-13 Assessor-Collector for the County of Nueces; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A highly talented and knowledgeable individual, he 1-15 was an admissions representative for Pikes Peak College and served 1-16 the United States government as a Small Business Administration 1-17 loan administrator; he was a work site outreach coordinator for the 1-18 AFL-CIO and was an independent real estate broker and property 1-19 manager; and 1-20 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman, Charles 1-21 Bolden was respected for his many accomplishments and for his 2-1 leadership in the community; he was the founder of the Black 2-2 Chamber of Commerce and a life member of the National Association 2-3 for the Advancement of Colored People; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Bolden was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a 2-5 member of the Grand Lodge of Perfection, a Noble of the Mystic 2-6 Shrine, and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc.; a devout Christian, 2-7 he was an original trustee and member of Saint Matthew's Missionary 2-8 Baptist Church and a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Well known for his integrity, compassion, and 2-10 generosity, Mr. Bolden gave unselfishly of his time to others, and 2-11 his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by 2-12 those who knew him; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Charles Bolden was a devoted husband and father, and 2-14 he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his 2-15 family and many friends; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved 2-18 family of Charles M. Bolden: his wife of 60 years, Eddie N. Bonner 2-19 Bolden; his son, Carl M. Bolden; and his sisters, Augusta Wilkins 2-20 and Tansy Bailey; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-22 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-23 Texas House of Representatives, and that when the Texas House of 2-24 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles 2-25 Bolden.
