                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, With the development of the Texoma Stampede, members

 1-2     of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce and other community leaders have

 1-3     come up with a unique way to foster unity among area nonprofit

 1-4     organizations while increasing awareness among the local citizenry

 1-5     of the wide range of services being offered by these worthy groups;

 1-6     and

 1-7           WHEREAS, To this end, organizers have brought together a host

 1-8     of charitable organizations to participate in Stampede Week from

 1-9     April 21-28, 1997; throughout the week, various community groups

1-10     will sponsor a number of exciting events, such as a softball

1-11     tournament, a five-kilometer walk, and a dance exposition and

1-12     competition, in support of deserving charities and projects; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Other festivities include a barbecue dinner and a

1-14     concert by country music star Steve Wariner at Loy Lake Park on

1-15     April 25 to benefit the Women's Crisis Center; the following

1-16     morning kicks off with the Methodist Men's Pancake Breakfast, and

1-17     this gathering will begin a day of outdoor activities and

1-18     competitions at nearby Loy Lake; and

1-19           WHEREAS, April 28, the final day of Stampede Week, features

1-20     the "Makin' Tracks" kids' track meet at Grayson County Speedway and

1-21     the Cowboy Cow Pasture Golf Tournament at Tanglewood Resort; this

1-22     unique contest is played on horseback using real cowpatties and is

1-23     sure to be a crowd pleaser; and

1-24           WHEREAS, By bringing many of Grayson County's nonprofit

 2-1     groups together for a single event, the Texoma Stampede creates

 2-2     solidarity among these worthwhile organizations while also raising

 2-3     much-needed funds and providing greater exposure for the causes

 2-4     they represent, and the lasting effects of endeavors such as this

 2-5     will benefit not only these fine organizations, but the entire

 2-6     community as well; now, therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-8     Legislature hereby recognize April 21-28, 1997, as Texoma Stampede

 2-9     Week and honor all those who have given generously of their time

2-10     and talents to ensure the success of this event; and, be it further

2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-12     prepared for the Sherman Chamber of Commerce as an expression of

2-13     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
