                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The United States Border Patrol Drug Demand

 1-2     Reduction Program has been offering guidance to the youth of Laredo

 1-3     since 1987, and the many fine individuals involved with this

 1-4     program are certainly deserving of special legislative recognition;

 1-5     and

 1-6           WHEREAS, This commendable plan seeks to increase awareness of

 1-7     the dangers and hardships associated with drugs while at the same

 1-8     time working to create positive role models; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Concepts such as "Youth of the Month" and "Head of

1-10     the Class" recognize and reward student achievement both in school

1-11     and in the community; in addition, civic functions and school

1-12     presentations are employed in an effort to establish a relationship

1-13     of trust and understanding between the students of Laredo and the

1-14     border patrol; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Several members of this outstanding program merit

1-16     special mention, including Chief Patrol Agent Luis E. Barker,

1-17     Assistant Patrol Agent Oscar H. Garza, and drug demand reduction

1-18     coordinators Elizabeth Rosales, Patrick Trevino, and Erik S.

1-19     Grubin; their dedication and commitment to excellence have helped

1-20     to make this program a great success, and it is a privilege to

1-21     honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby commend the many individuals involved in the

1-24     United States Border Patrol Drug Demand Reduction Program and

 2-1     extend to them sincere thanks for their determined efforts to

 2-2     educate Laredo's youth and enforce the laws of Texas; and, be it

 2-3     further

 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-5     prepared for the members of the United States Border Patrol Drug

 2-6     Demand Reduction Program as an expression of high regard by the

 2-7     Texas House of Representatives.
