No. 641 75R11609 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, For many years, the people of Dallas County have 1-2 benefited from the stalwart service of Deputy Chief John L. 1-3 Garrett of the Dallas County Constable's Office, and his receipt of 1-4 an award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus provides a most 1-5 fitting opportunity to honor him for his outstanding commitment; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Garrett is a native of Louisiana and 1-8 furthered his education at both Prairie View A&M University and 1-9 Southwest Texas State University; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A Vietnam veteran and retired sergeant in the United 1-11 States Army, he has more than 18 years' experience in the area of 1-12 law enforcement and has served his fellow citizens as a deputy 1-13 chief of Precinct 7 for the Dallas County Constable's Office since 1-14 1995; he further contributes to his chosen field as a director of 1-15 the Justice of the Peace and Constable Association; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Through the years, Deputy Chief Garrett has received 1-17 numerous awards from the state and the community for his brave and 1-18 meritorious service, and he was named Officer of the Year for 1-19 Dallas County in 1989; and 1-20 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he has been sustained by the 1-21 love and support of his devoted wife, Betty, and the couple's seven 1-22 children and three grandchildren; a deeply religious man, he renews 1-23 his spiritual strength as a deacon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church; 1-24 and 2-1 WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Garrett's dedication to his community 2-2 is truly notable, and it is a distinct privilege to honor him at 2-3 this time; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby commend Deputy Chief John L. Garrett for his 2-6 exemplary career in law enforcement and extend to him heartfelt 2-7 congratulations on his receipt of an award from the Texas 2-8 Legislative Black Caucus; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Deputy Chief Garrett as an expression of high regard 2-11 by the Texas House of Representatives.
