R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, For many years, the Dallas community has benefitted

 1-2     from the vision and leadership of Lillie Mae Fain, and her recent

 1-3     receipt of an award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus

 1-4     provides a most fitting opportunity to honor her for her

 1-5     outstanding service; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Dallas' Oak Cliff

 1-7     neighborhood, Ms. Fain's community involvement started long ago

 1-8     when she dedicated herself to enhancing the quality of public

 1-9     education in the community as president of both the N. W.  Harllee

1-10     and Franklin D. Roosevelt parent teacher associations during the

1-11     1950s and 1960s; and

1-12           WHEREAS, In the late 1960s, she began working on voter

1-13     registration issues; Ms. Fain soon became a welcome volunteer on

1-14     countless political campaigns and was herself elected to public

1-15     office as the chair of Precinct 3320 for six years; and

1-16           WHEREAS, From 1971 until her retirement in 1995, Ms. Fain was

1-17     employed by the Dallas County Elections Department as a deputy

1-18     registrar community relations specialist and since that time, she

1-19     has returned on a part-time basis to serve as phone bank personnel

1-20     manager of the department; and

1-21           WHEREAS, This remarkable woman is currently active with the

1-22     Tenth Street Historical District in Oak Cliff, the Franklin D.

1-23     Roosevelt PTA, the Band Parent Booster Club, and Golden Gate

1-24     Missionary Baptist Church, and her stalwart commitment through the

 2-1     years has earned her the respect and admiration of many people; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, she has enjoyed the love and

 2-3     support of her family, which includes seven children, 22

 2-4     grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, Lillie Mae Fain has enhanced the quality of life in

 2-6     the Dallas community in numerous ways, and her exceptional

 2-7     commitment is a source of inspiration to all who are privileged to

 2-8     know her; now, therefore, be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-10     Legislature hereby honor Lillie Mae Fain for her exemplary

2-11     professional and civic involvement and extend to her heartfelt

2-12     congratulations on her receipt of an award from the Texas

2-13     Legislative Black Caucus; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-15     prepared for Ms. Fain as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-16     House of Representatives.
