                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, MCI Communications Corporation has chosen El Paso as

 1-2     the site of its fifth Operator Network Center, and this decision

 1-3     will greatly benefit the citizens of this fine Texas city; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Over the next five years, the proposed center will

 1-5     bring approximately 1,000 new jobs to the El Paso area, creating a

 1-6     substantial positive increase in the city's employment rate; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, El Paso's large bilingual population was an

 1-8     important factor in MCI's selection of this historic city; the

 1-9     center's operators will be counted on to provide directory

1-10     assistance and services to local and long distance customers in

1-11     both English and Spanish; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Headquartered in Washington, D.C., MCI is one of the

1-13     largest and fastest growing telecommunications companies in the

1-14     world, providing more than 20 million customers with a wide variety

1-15     of communication services; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The development of this state-of-the-art

1-17     communications center will no doubt be mutually beneficial to both

1-18     MCI and the city of El Paso, and the residents of El Paso look

1-19     forward to establishing a rewarding business relationship with this

1-20     prominent company; now, therefore, be it

1-21           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-22     Legislature hereby congratulate the citizens of El Paso on securing

1-23     this important contract and recognize MCI Communications

1-24     Corporation for creating this tremendous opportunity for the

 2-1     citizens of this proud community; and, be it further

 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-3     prepared for MCI Communications Corporation as an expression of

 2-4     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
