R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Romeo Perez will graduate from Texas Southern

 1-2     University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law on May 16, 1997, and

 1-3     this accomplishment is indeed deserving of special legislative

 1-4     recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A native of Edinburg, Mr. Perez has been blessed

 1-6     with a bright sense of humor and a level of maturity far beyond his

 1-7     years, and his personable nature has earned him many friends;

 1-8     affectionately known as "Bubba," he parlayed his innate gift for

 1-9     theatrics into a distinguished high school career as a thespian,

1-10     turning in acclaimed performances in University Interscholastic

1-11     League Duet, Prose, and One-Act Play competitions; and

1-12           WHEREAS, He went on to study political science at The

1-13     University of Texas at Austin, and while still a student, he

1-14     managed the competing responsibilities of study and work, holding

1-15     positions as a legislative assistant to former State Representative

1-16     Alex Moreno, Jr., and as an engineering technician with the Texas

1-17     Water Development Board; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Mr. Perez's law school studies have been augmented

1-19     by his real world experience as a law clerk at the office of Ramon

1-20     Garcia, PC, and as a legal research assistant for Professor M.

1-21     Butler; after his graduation, this outstanding young man will set

1-22     out for Las Vegas, Nevada, home of Wayne Newton, Siegfried and Roy,

1-23     and the Flying Elvises, but despite these tempting distractions, he

1-24     is expected to establish a successful and noteworthy career as an

 2-1     attorney; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Although he will undoubtedly be busy balancing the

 2-3     rigors of a demanding career with the occasional side trip to "roll

 2-4     the bones" at his favorite table or "bet it all on black" at the

 2-5     roulette wheel, Mr. Perez has been entreated by his family and many

 2-6     friends in Texas to remember them with an occasional phone call or

 2-7     at least a postcard depicting his colorful new surroundings;

 2-8     Mr. Perez has long been a source of pride and inspiration to his

 2-9     family and friends, including his parents, Ramiro and Linda Perez,

2-10     his sister, Rhonda Roberta Perez, his late brother, Rodney Ryan

2-11     Perez, and his best friend, Ruben D. Longoria, Jr., and they join

2-12     in wishing him well in this new venture; and

2-13           WHEREAS, Through his many years of service to the State of

2-14     Texas and the Edinburg community, Romeo Perez has established

2-15     himself as a vital and valued citizen of the Lone Star State; his

2-16     presence here will be missed, but the door will always remain open

2-17     to this esteemed individual, with the hopes that he may one day

2-18     return home; now, therefore, be it

2-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-20     Legislature hereby congratulate Romeo Perez on the auspicious

2-21     occasion of his law school commencement and extend to him warmest

2-22     best wishes for continued success and happiness in all his future

2-23     endeavors; and, be it further

2-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-25     prepared for Mr. Perez as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-26     House of Representatives.
