R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans

 1-2     who have shared 50 happy and rewarding years of marriage is truly a

 1-3     memorable occasion worthy of special recognition; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Travis and Doris Matthews of Grapevine will have the

 1-5     privilege of commemorating such an event in their lives when they

 1-6     celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on May 17, 1997; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, United in matrimony in 1947, the Matthewses have

 1-8     nurtured an enduring relationship that has grown in love and

 1-9     respect with each passing year and that has been blessed with two

1-10     daughters, Sandra Kay Matthews Hodges and Linda Jane Matthews

1-11     Nettles; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Throughout their life together, the couple have been

1-13     valued and industrious members of their community; Mr. Matthews is

1-14     well regarded as a former member of both the Grapevine City Council

1-15     and the Grapevine School Board, and he retired from LTV Aerospace

1-16     after 33 years of noteworthy service; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Mrs. Matthews has pursued a career outside the home

1-18     as well and earned distinction for her work in the insurance

1-19     industry that spanned more than two decades until her retirement;

1-20     and

1-21           WHEREAS, The Matthewses have further served their community

1-22     through their exemplary civic involvement; Mr. Matthews has been

1-23     active with the Masonic Lodge, while Mrs. Matthews has been

1-24     associated with the Grapevine Chapter of Eastern Star, the Tuesday

 2-1     Study Club, and the Bay View Club; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, In addition, the couple have both given generously

 2-3     of their time and talents to volunteer with numerous worthy civic

 2-4     and community organizations; in all their endeavors, they have been

 2-5     sustained by their faith as devout members of the First Baptist

 2-6     Church of Grapevine, where they participate in many activities as

 2-7     well; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, Now surrounded by a loving family that has grown to

 2-9     include their children's spouses, Danny Hodges and Roy Nettles, and

2-10     two grandchildren, Angela Deanne Hodges and Bradley James Hodges,

2-11     the Matthewses look forward to each day with the same enthusiasm

2-12     that first sparked their romance more than five decades ago; and

2-13           WHEREAS, For a half-century, Travis and Doris Matthews have

2-14     shared a warm and affectionate union filled with many happy times

2-15     and cherished family memories; built on a solid foundation of

2-16     mutual love, trust, and support, their life together is a source of

2-17     joy and inspiration to their many friends and family; now,

2-18     therefore, be it

2-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-20     Legislature hereby congratulate Travis and Doris Matthews on the

2-21     occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them

2-22     warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further

2-23           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-24     prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Matthews as an expression of high regard

2-25     by the Texas House of Representatives.
