                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, For nearly six decades the Junior League of McAllen,

 1-2     Inc., has provided a wide variety of community services to improve

 1-3     the quality of life for area children and youth; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Founded in 1938 as the Junior Service League of

 1-5     McAllen, the organization had among its earliest projects the

 1-6     establishment of the Milk and Ice Fund and the provision of

 1-7     much-needed health examinations and vaccinations to those less

 1-8     fortunate; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, During its formative years, the dedicated members of

1-10     the Junior League of McAllen opened Community House for

1-11     underprivileged girls, helped establish the McAllen Child Clinic,

1-12     started the Plasma Bank, raised money for bond drives, served as

1-13     Red Cross nurse's aides, and sponsored the membership meeting of

1-14     the McAllen Memorial Library Association; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Other beneficial projects were soon to follow,

1-16     including the establishment of food and medicine banks at the

1-17     McAllen Child Clinic, the organization of the Women's Auxiliary at

1-18     McAllen Municipal Hospital, and the donation of funds to equip and

1-19     furnish the pediatric wing at the hospital; the group also assisted

1-20     such worthy concerns as the McAllen Youth Center, the Easter Seal

1-21     Drive, the Valley United Fund Drive, and Hidalgo County Family

1-22     Counseling; and

1-23           WHEREAS, One of the Junior League's most vital contributions

1-24     has been its participation in the founding of the McAllen

 2-1     International Museum, and the organization has continued its

 2-2     support of that facility through the years by providing both

 2-3     manpower and funding; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, In addition, the Junior League of McAllen has given

 2-5     financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, and donations;

 2-6     deserving recipients of the organization's assistance include the

 2-7     "In His Steps" Shoe Bank, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Food Bank

 2-8     of the Rio Grande Valley, the Palmer Drug Abuse Program, and the

 2-9     Rainbow Room of the Child Protective Services Office of Hidalgo

2-10     County; and

2-11           WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the members of the Junior

2-12     League of McAllen have given support and hope to the youth of their

2-13     community, and their many significant contributions in this regard

2-14     are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition at this time;

2-15     now, therefore, be it

2-16           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-17     Legislature hereby commend the Junior League of McAllen, Inc., on

2-18     its remarkable history of community service and extend to its

2-19     members sincere best wishes for continued success with all their

2-20     future endeavors; and, be it further

2-21           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-22     prepared for the Junior League of McAllen as an expression of high

2-23     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
