R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 A. L. "Dusty" Rhodes of Abilene on his exceptional achievements as 1-3 a rancher, attorney, and civic leader; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Hugo, Oklahoma, on June 6, 1932, he enlisted 1-5 in the United States armed forces as a young man and went on to 1-6 serve his country with distinction during the Korean War; and 1-7 WHEREAS, After completing his military service, Mr. Rhodes 1-8 attended Abilene Christian University, where he earned his bachelor 1-9 of arts degree, and he continued his pursuit of academic excellence 1-10 at The University of Texas at Austin; he earned his law degree in 1-11 1960 and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas later that year; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, He has been a practicing attorney for 37 years, and 1-14 has served his clients in courts in 22 states; additionally, this 1-15 eloquent and distinguished gentleman was admitted to practice 1-16 before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of 1-17 Appeals, Fifth Circuit, and the United States District Court, 1-18 Northern District of Texas; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. Rhodes has been an active voice in the legal 1-20 profession, having served as president of the Abilene Bar 1-21 Association, as a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, and as a 1-22 member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the American 1-23 Trial Lawyers Association; and 1-24 WHEREAS, In addition to his work as an attorney, Mr. Rhodes 2-1 is also one of the Lone Star State's most respected ranchers and 2-2 currently holds the office of president of the Texas Hereford 2-3 Association; and 2-4 WHEREAS, His purebred Hereford cattle are among the finest in 2-5 the nation and have earned a number of prestigious distinctions, 2-6 including three National Grand Champion bulls, five National Grand 2-7 Champion cows, two National Reserve Grand Champion bulls, and seven 2-8 National Car Load lots of Herefords; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The owner of Rolling Plains Farm Supply, a farm 2-10 tractor dealership in Stamford, Mr. Rhodes is active in banking and 2-11 real estate as well and also finds time in his busy schedule to 2-12 serve area youth as a director of Hendrick Home for Children in 2-13 Abilene; and 2-14 WHEREAS, He has been supported in all his endeavors by his 2-15 devoted wife, Nancy, and their four children, Ed, Christi, Annette, 2-16 and Sherrie; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Rhodes's vast achievements are an inspiration to 2-18 all who know him, and he is indeed worthy of special legislative 2-19 recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-21 Legislature hereby congratulate A. L. "Dusty" Rhodes on his many 2-22 significant professional and civic contributions and extend to him 2-23 sincere best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it 2-24 further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for Mr. Rhodes as an expression of high regard by the 3-3 Texas House of Representatives.
