R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Delona Ellenburg Fishel on March 12,

 1-2     1997, has brought a great loss to the family and many friends of

 1-3     this esteemed resident of the Lake Coleman area; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Born in Clairette to Harrison and Lela Hall

 1-5     Ellenburg, Mrs. Fishel moved to Abilene in 1933 to attend

 1-6     Draughon's Business College; she wed Edd Fishel on June 17, 1945,

 1-7     and the couple nurtured a deeply fulfilling union that spanned more

 1-8     than 51 years; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Mrs. Fishel began her noteworthy career as a cashier

1-10     and bookkeeper at Harvey Dry Goods and went on to become the owner

1-11     and operator of the Parisian Hat Shop; after combining her store

1-12     with her husband's shop, Fishel's Clothiers, in 1960, she opened a

1-13     complete bridal department, and she earned well-deserved acclaim

1-14     for her exceptional business skills when she was honored with the

1-15     National Bridal Award for her establishment; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Fishel sold their store in 1983, after

1-17     nearly three decades of service to the Abilene community, and they

1-18     retired to Lake Coleman and Lamkin, where they established a dinner

1-19     theater for the enjoyment of their many friends in the area and

1-20     generously donated the theater's proceeds to the community; and

1-21           WHEREAS, The Fishels' altruism extended to the area of higher

1-22     education as well, for they helped many deserving students

1-23     attending Abilene Christian University, McMurry University, and

1-24     Hardin-Simmons University to further their studies; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Mrs. Fishel also contributed to the Abilene

 2-2     community through her involvement in numerous organizations; she

 2-3     was instrumental in establishing the Cystic Fibrosis Chapter in

 2-4     Abilene and West Texas and was active with the Altrusa Club of

 2-5     Abilene, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, the Knife and Fork Club

 2-6     of Abilene, and the Abilene Woman's Club; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, A descendent of Virginia settler James Roy,

 2-8     Mrs. Fishel was heir to a proud family heritage, and she shared her

 2-9     respect for history with countless others as a member of both the

2-10     Daughters of the American Revolution and the William Norwood

2-11     Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists; and

2-12           WHEREAS, Delona Fishel left an indelible mark on her

2-13     community during her years on this earth, and though her presence

2-14     will be deeply missed, her memory will long endure in the hearts

2-15     and minds of all who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it

2-16           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-17     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Delona Ellenburg

2-18     Fishel and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to

2-19     her husband, Edd E. Fishel; to her sister, Ramona Sharp; to her

2-20     nieces and nephews; and to the many other friends and relatives of

2-21     this beloved woman; and, be it further

2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-23     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas

2-24     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-25     Delona Ellenburg Fishel.
