R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, April 26, 1997, has been set aside as a special day

 1-2     in the Lake Jackson community to celebrate the 70th birthday of an

 1-3     esteemed citizen, Jesse Hernandez, Sr.; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, The son of Manuel Hernandez, Sr., and Euphemia

 1-5     Hernandez, he was born April 17, 1927, in Cuero and attended

 1-6     Wharton Junior College as a young man; he wed the lovely Theresa

 1-7     Ramirez on June 17, 1951, and the couple have nurtured a deeply

 1-8     fulfilling union that has guided them throughout life's endeavors;

 1-9     and

1-10           WHEREAS, Mr. Hernandez is the devoted father of Roland

1-11     Hernandez, Terri Linda Sanchez, Jesse Hernandez, Jr., Anna Marie

1-12     Tullos, and John Hernandez; a loving grandfather as well, he shares

1-13     a special relationship with his grandchildren, including Lesley

1-14     Hernandez, Tiffany Sanchez, Brittany Sanchez, Trent Tullos, and

1-15     Alanna and Alissa Tullos, all of whom have benefitted from the

1-16     wisdom and guidance of this fine gentleman; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Mr. Hernandez enjoyed a successful business career

1-18     until his retirement and was a valued employee of Independent Auto

1-19     Supply, Super Shell Oil Company, and Dow Chemical Company for many

1-20     years; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Despite his busy schedule, he has consistently made

1-22     time in his life to assist several worthy organizations in the

1-23     community, including the American Legion, the League of United

1-24     Latin American Citizens, and the Knights of Columbus; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hernandez has been

 2-2     sustained by his deep faith and he is a devout member of Saint

 2-3     Michael's Catholic Church, where he serves as a eucharistic

 2-4     minister; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Jesse Hernandez, Sr., has

 2-6     brought joy and happiness to the many people whose lives he has

 2-7     touched, and it gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to

 2-8     join the citizens of Lake Jackson in paying tribute to him at this

 2-9     time; now, therefore, be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-11     Legislature hereby congratulate Jesse Hernandez, Sr., on the

2-12     occasion of his 70th birthday and extend to him warmest best wishes

2-13     for continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-15     prepared for Mr. Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the

2-16     Texas House of Representatives.
