R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Winona LaQuey Cooper of Garland in 1-2 January 1997, at the age of 77, has brought a great loss to the 1-3 family and many friends of this lovely woman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, she wed Randall Cooper on May 1-5 23, 1941, and the couple nurtured a happy and fulfilling union that 1-6 spanned 55 years and was blessed with five children; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cooper will be fondly remembered as a devoted 1-8 wife, mother, and grandmother, and her love and kindness guided the 1-9 Coopers through life's endeavors and was a source of inspiration to 1-10 many people; and 1-11 WHEREAS, This remarkable woman supported her children in all 1-12 their activities; a member of the Parent-Teacher Association, 1-13 Mrs. Cooper encouraged her youngsters when they entered livestock 1-14 shows, and she prepared nutritious lunches for them every day; and 1-15 WHEREAS, She also did her part on the home front during times 1-16 of war by providing a warm and secure home life for the couple's 1-17 family and writing letters and supporting the efforts of her 1-18 husband, who was a fighter pilot in World War II, and her son, who 1-19 was a Marine in the Vietnam War; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Cooper consistently made 1-21 time in her schedule to work for the betterment of her community 1-22 through her service to the Neoteric Club and the Women of Rotary, 1-23 and her exceptional commitment earned her the admiration of her 1-24 many friends and neighbors; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The qualities that endeared her to so many emanated 2-2 from her deep faith as a longtime member of the First United 2-3 Methodist Church of Garland, and she further served the religious 2-4 community as president of the United Methodist Women's Club; and 2-5 WHEREAS, During her lifetime, Winona Cooper touched the lives 2-6 of many people, and though her presence will be deeply missed, her 2-7 memory will surely endure in the hearts and minds of all who knew 2-8 and loved her; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Winona LaQuey Cooper 2-11 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-12 husband, Randall Cooper; to her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry 2-13 and Dianne Cooper, Joe and Betty Cooper, John and Debbie Cooper, 2-14 and Tom and Debbie Cooper; to her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah 2-15 and Richard Ross; to her sister, Eva Gardner; to her 13 2-16 grandchildren; and to the many other friends and relatives of this 2-17 esteemed Texan; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-20 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-21 Winona LaQuey Cooper.
