No. 687 75R12393 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Dorothy Helen Chandler Leonard 1-2 of Kerrville on April 10, 1997, has brought a great loss to the 1-3 many friends and relatives of this beloved lady; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Known to her friends as "Dot," she was born December 1-5 31, 1925, in Abilene to Judge J. M. Chandler and the former Myrtle 1-6 Mae Cunningham; as a young woman she was graduated from the 1-7 Hockaday School in Dallas and pursued her higher education at The 1-8 University of Texas at Austin, graduating with honors from that 1-9 prestigious institution; and 1-10 WHEREAS, She was a lifelong supporter of The University of 1-11 Texas and provided visionary leadership as a member of the first 1-12 development board for The University of Texas at San Antonio; 1-13 additionally, she was a member of the Longhorn Foundation, the 1-14 Chancellor's Council, and The University of Texas Ex-Students 1-15 Association; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A resident of Kerrville since 1954, she built a 1-17 thriving business as a realtor and was a highly respected voice in 1-18 her profession, holding memberships in the Kerrville Board of 1-19 Realtors and the Texas Association of Realtors; and 1-20 WHEREAS, She also established the G. Rankin Starkey 1-21 Scholarship, which awards scholarships to local students attending 1-22 The University of Texas; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mrs. Leonard was a stranger to no one and will be 1-24 greatly missed by her family and friends across the State of Texas; 2-1 although her presence is gone from us now, her memory will live on 2-2 in the hearts of those people fortunate enough to have known her 2-3 during her time on this earth; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby honor the life of Dorothy Helen Chandler Leonard 2-6 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-7 daughter, Diane Oehler; to her sons, Joseph Francis Leonard III and 2-8 J. K. Leonard; to her son-in-law, Donald C. Oehler; to her 2-9 daughter-in-law, Georganne G. Leonard; to her five grandchildren, 2-10 Elizabeth Chandler Oehler and Paul Joseph Oehler and Drew, Colin, 2-11 and Reese Leonard; and to the many other friends and relatives of 2-12 this esteemed woman; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-15 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in her memory.
