By Haggerty H.R. No. 691 75R4849 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Kenneth K. Brimer, Sr., on July 20, 1-2 1995, at the age of 74, brought a great loss to the many friends 1-3 and relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born August 24, 1920, in Lampasas, Texas, Mr. Brimer 1-5 was graduated from Carlton High School and moved to Houston at the 1-6 age of 17 to join his two older brothers, Woody and Chester; and 1-7 WHEREAS, While an employee with Standard Plumbing Supply in 1-8 Houston, he met the the former Frances Hughes; the two were wed and 1-9 shared 56 joyful years of mutual affection and devotion; and 1-10 WHEREAS, An exemplary patriot, Mr. Brimer enlisted in the 1-11 U.S. Navy during World War II, serving with distinction in the 1-12 Pacific Theater of Operations, and was decorated for his conduct in 1-13 several major sea battles; and 1-14 WHEREAS, He returned to Houston after completing his military 1-15 service and enrolled at the University of Houston; possessed of an 1-16 intense interest in the field of telecommunications and eager to 1-17 begin his career, Mr. Brimer took a position with Southwestern Bell 1-18 and he brought to that job the professionalism that was to become 1-19 the hallmark of all his many endeavors; and 1-20 WHEREAS, After a long and highly successful association with 1-21 Southwestern Bell, which saw him rise to the position of district 1-22 engineer, Mr. Brimer resigned and established Plant Service Company 1-23 in Fort Worth, and he built that firm into a thriving and respected 1-24 enterprise; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Mr. Brimer also devoted his varied talents to the 2-2 pursuit of a number of other ventures, including a general 2-3 contracting business, a utility construction company, a used car 2-4 dealership, a picture frame distributorship, and an air 2-5 conditioning company; after retirement he was marketing vice 2-6 president at a bank and project manager for his condominium 2-7 association; and 2-8 WHEREAS, A dynamic presence in the community, this vigorous 2-9 individual gave freely of his time and energy as president of the 2-10 Willow Bend Civic Club, chairman of Junior Achievement, Sunday 2-11 school president, and, with his wife Frances, as a charter member 2-12 of the Westbury United Methodist Church in Houston; in addition, he 2-13 maintained active membership in the Society of Telephone Engineers, 2-14 the American Right-of-Way Association, and the Veterans of Foreign 2-15 Wars, and in 1990 he was appointed by governor Bill Clements to 2-16 serve on the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Brimer also took great pleasure in a variety of 2-18 other activities, including collecting classic automobiles, 2-19 fishing, sailing, and practicing horticulture; and 2-20 WHEREAS, Known to many as "Senior," this devoted husband and 2-21 father was a constant source of inspiration and strength to his 2-22 wife and children, and provided his family members with 2-23 understanding and assistance whenever it was needed; and 2-24 WHEREAS, Kenneth K. Brimer, Sr., was a man of compassion and 2-25 integrity; although his warmth and wisdom are missed deeply by all 2-26 who knew him, his remarkable spirit lives on in the hearts of those 2-27 he touched during his time on this earth; now, therefore, be it 3-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 3-2 Legislature hereby honor the life of Kenneth K. Brimer, Sr., and 3-3 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 3-4 Frances Hughes Brimer; to his son, the Honorable Kenneth "Kim" 3-5 Brimer; to his daughter, Kay Nader; to his brother, Woody Brimer; 3-6 to his daughter-in-law, Janna Brimer; to his son-in-law, James 3-7 Nader; to his six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; to 3-8 his step great-grandchild; and to the many other friends and 3-9 relatives of this beloved man; and, be it further 3-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-11 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 3-12 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-13 Kenneth K. Brimer, Sr.
