                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Gilles Marie Lucien Andre Barbier on

 1-2     August 4, 1995, at the age of 42, brought a great loss to the

 1-3     family and many friends of this esteemed Houston resident; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, The son of Pierre and Michelle Barbier, he was born

 1-5     in Orleans, France, on August 5, 1952, and spent his childhood in

 1-6     small communities within the Loire and Cher Region of France; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, For a number of years, Mr. Barbier was employed as a

 1-8     professional diver and, after working in several countries, made

 1-9     his home in Singapore, where he met his future bride, Deborah Odum,

1-10     a Texan who was overseas visiting her brother; and

1-11           WHEREAS, The couple wed in France before moving to the Lone

1-12     Star State, where Mr. Barbier embarked on a new venture as a

1-13     photographer; he acclimated quickly to his new environment and was

1-14     proud to become a naturalized Texan; and

1-15           WHEREAS, A man of great warmth and enthusiasm, Gilles Barbier

1-16     touched the lives of many people during his years on this earth,

1-17     and though he is gone from us now, his memory endures in the hearts

1-18     and minds of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it

1-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-20     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gilles Marie Lucien

1-21     Andre Barbier and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his

1-22     family: to his beloved wife, Deborah Odum Barbier; to his daughter,

1-23     Julia Emmanuelle Marie Barbier; to his parents, Pierre and Michelle

1-24     Barbier; to his brother, Patrick Barbier; to his sister,

 2-1     Marie-Pierre Barbier-Jaubertie; and to the many other friends and

 2-2     relatives of this fine gentleman; and, be it further

 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-4     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

 2-5     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

 2-6     Gilles Marie Lucien Andre Barbier.
