R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Kennon Sweat of Houston, whose recent heroic actions helped save 1-3 the life of Annie McRae during a life-threatening health emergency; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, On the evening of March 16, 1997, Kennon Sweat 1-6 answered the telephone at his family's home and heard labored 1-7 breathing; thinking it might be a prankster, he hung up; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Troubled by the possibility that the caller might 1-9 have been someone in trouble, this intelligent 11-year-old noted 1-10 the number on Caller I.D. and determined to phone the person; on 1-11 making the connection, he heard the same distressed breathing and 1-12 asked his mother to listen; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sweat heard a voice faintly asking for help and 1-14 immediately dialed 911, furnishing the operator with the phone 1-15 number of the caller; now alerted to the situation, the emergency 1-16 team went to the home of Annie McRae, who is a tracheostomy 1-17 patient, and cleared her badly blocked breathing tube; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The prompt response by Kennon Sweat was likely 1-19 responsible for saving the life of Mrs. McRae, and his 1-20 inspirational actions are truly worthy of special legislative 1-21 recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-23 Legislature hereby commend Kennon Sweat on his exceptional actions 1-24 in coming to the aid of Annie McRae; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-2 prepared for Kennon Sweat as an expression of highest regard by the 2-3 Texas House of Representatives.
