R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Judge Sallie Gonzalez has distinguished herself as a 1-2 dedicated public servant and valued asset to the Harlingen 1-3 community, and it is indeed fitting that she be commended for her 1-4 many achievements; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Judge Gonzalez has worked to 1-6 make the world a better place, and she has given freely of her time 1-7 and talent to a number of organizations, including the Harlingen 1-8 Lioness Club, the Red Cross, and the End of the Road Homeless 1-9 Shelter, where she serves on the board of directors; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A committed advocate of young people, she is a 1-11 coordinator of the local Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) 1-12 Program and acts as a youth leader at St. Anthony's Catholic 1-13 Church; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Her love of children is also evident in her warm 1-15 relations with her own extended family, and Judge Gonzalez draws 1-16 great strength and sustenance from her relatives, including her 1-17 three brothers, three sisters, 13 nieces and nephews, and 1-18 grandniece and grandnephew; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The esteem in which she is held by her professional 1-20 peers is aptly illustrated by the many honors she has been 1-21 accorded, including being named the 1996 Woman of the Year by the 1-22 Zonta Club of Harlingen and the 1996 Judge of the Year by the 1-23 Justice of the Peace and Constable's Association; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Judge Sallie Gonzalez has earned the affection and 2-1 respect of her fellow Texans for her outstanding record of public 2-2 service, and she is truly worthy of special praise and recognition 2-3 at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby honor Judge Sallie Gonzalez for her many 2-6 contributions to the citizens of Harlingen and extend to her 2-7 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-8 future; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Judge Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
