R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Community Youth Development (CYD) program has

 1-2     emerged as one of the Lone Star State's most outstanding

 1-3     initiatives in behalf of young people, and this notable endeavor is

 1-4     truly worthy of special praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Founded in 1995 by concerned residents of Corpus

 1-6     Christi's 78415 ZIP code area, CYD was designed to provide positive

 1-7     direction to the area's young people while fostering the support

 1-8     and involvement of their families, and based on an initial

 1-9     proposal, the group was selected by the Texas Department of

1-10     Protective and Regulatory Services to receive a $900,000 grant; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Since that time, participants in CYD have achieved

1-12     remarkable success in the practical application of the group's

1-13     worthwhile ideals, and the many activities they have undertaken

1-14     include a mentoring program, providing computer-aided assistance

1-15     with homework, neighborhood lighting improvement and

1-16     beautification, and the establishment of two activity centers

1-17     staffed with recreational leaders; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Because of the dedicated efforts of the staff and

1-19     supporters of CYD, thousands of young people and their families in

1-20     the 78415 area now have access to resources and programs that can

1-21     make a significant difference in their lives, and it is indeed

1-22     fitting at this time to recognize the many public-spirited Texans

1-23     responsible for the creation and implementation of CYD; now,

1-24     therefore, be it

 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-2     Legislature hereby honor all those associated with the Community

 2-3     Youth Development program and extend to them sincere best wishes

 2-4     for continued success in the years to come.
